Missing "Send As..." Permission Attribute
Trying to assign a group the "Send As..." permission for a shared mailbox. In the past I distinctly remember seeing that as an option under the permissions for the mailbox. It's not present any longer and no patches/upgrades have been applied to the Exchange servers.I was reading KB895949, which described the change in SP2 and the subsequent hotfix to separate Send As from Full Control. The file versions for the "fixed" feature are listed as:Mdbmsg.dll 6.5.7650.23Store.exe 6.5.7650.23My versions are:Mdbmsg.dll 6.5.7651.61Store.exe 6.5.7651.61This is cropping up because assigning a user Full Control is not allowing them to Send As. The only workaround I have is to give them Send on Behalf Of. This doesn't fit their needs, however. They need it to mask their name altogether.Any ideas would be helpful.

You should apply Send As permissions to the mailbox using Active Directory Users and Computers (on the Security tab). This KB explains the change (and when it occured) far better than I can. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/895949 HTH, Jim

Dear customer: Thanks for Jims reply. He is right. I found your versions are below, which is higher than the corresponding version in the following KB. That is means even you assign a user full access permission for a mailbox, the user doesnt have the send as permission for the user. Mdbmsg.dll 6.5.7651.61 Store.exe 6.5.7651.61 The following words explain the reason: The Send As permission has been implicitly included in the Full Mailbox Access permission. By customer request, this behavior has now been changed to allow granting Full Mailbox Access without having to also allow Send As. This change is implemented in the following versions of Exchange Server 2003: Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1 with a Store.exe file version of 7233.51 or higher Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 with a Store.exe file version of 7650.23 or higher This change is not included with Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2. If you have been running the Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1 version of Store.exe that includes this change, and you upgrade to Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2, you must install the Service Pack 2 version of this hotfix to retain the new behavior. This change will be included in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 3. For more information about How to Manually Grant Send As Permissions to a User with Full Mailbox Access, please refer to the following article: How to Manually Grant Send As Permissions to a User with Full Mailbox Access http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125118(EXCHG.65).aspx Hope it helps. Oh for the love of all that is good and holy... I was looking in the Mailbox Rights, not the Security tab. Silly me.

Don't worry about that, before that Post SP2 hot fix, you WOULD have been looking at Mailbox Rights. Don't you love IT? It keeps us learning new things all the time.
